When I Am Driving Ac Works Fine Untill I Slow Down
Posted in Air Conditioning | Asked on Feb 19, 2012To the advice of my many mechanics I have changed all the components of the ac. compressor, condenser, oriface, charged the system a few times, changed the ac clutch to the tune of about 1800.00 changed 2 swithches . does any body know why. it a ford explorer 2003

I would guess that the A/C fan isn’t strong enough, although all A/C systems operate better when you’re actually moving – that little electric fan just can’t push the air through the heat exchanger fast enough.
Ohh…well that happens to me a lot too…its because when a car goes it collects air to cool and blow out through the vents..like whenever im in a traffic jam it does that..you really cant control it
Does the engine run hotter than normal, the usual reason for your problem is the cooling system,if it runs to hot the condenser absorbs a lot of the heat therefore it cannot condense the refrigerant sufficiently to keep it in a liquid state. Two thing’s I would check-1/ make sure the fan clutch is working correctly, engine really hot it should be hard to turn make sure actual running temp of engine is correct
Car A/c use the fan behind the radiator to get pull air across the condensor coil right there with the radiator. When you are moving the the air volume across the coil is more then when you are stopped. Every car is like this, but if its really bad try cleaning out the radiator and cond. coil with a hose to get any dirt or bugs out. to increase the airflow.
You havent mentioned the clutch fan it suppossed to speed up when you slow down. the condensor is in front of the radiator its job is to dissperse heat when your moving it cools off faster when u slow down the cooling effect slows down so the clutch fan kicks in i would test it my self just spin it when the car is NOT running and cold should it not spin freely also adding a after market electric fan on the front of the condersor would work great
The unit wasn’t serviced properly. It must be pumped down and then re-charge it. It can be a low charge or too high of a freon charge, You replaced all those parts for nothing .
Another item is that you may have a vaccum valve stuck, either in the engine compartment or under the dash. Get another truck, like Dodge or GMC. Fords have alot of problems.
Maybe your losing power?
You need to take this to an a/c specialist, explain the problem and have them diagnose it. An experienced a/c person can check the pressures and temps and know exactly what the problem is without guessing. It could be as simple as a vacuum leak in the blend door system or be a defective part that you have already replaced. Instead of guessing it’s the fan clutch they can tell if the condenser air flow is enough. Continuing to change parts isn’t the way to get it fixed. A reputable a/c shop with lots of experience will guarantee that their suggested repairs will fix it. We owned an a/c shop for years and offered that guarantee.
You may not have enough Freon in it , let me tell you this when it is hot out side the the A/C works harder If you notice on cool days the A/C works better the Freon is possible be low check it out.
