What Is The Worse That Could Happen When Driving With A Broken Air Compressor

Below is the question about What Is The Worse That Could Happen When Driving With A Broken Air Compressor,

I have a 07′ Ford Freestar van, and was told the a/c compressor was broken a couple months ago. The fix is almost $1000 and I have been saving to fix it. What is the worse thing that could happen to my car when driving with a broken ac compressor? Would it be safe to travel far?

  1. Andy says:

As long as the compressor clutch isn’t frozen up it will be fine.If the pulley on the compressor is turning there will be no problem.

  2. Pete M says:

The worst thing that could happen as a result of driving with a broken air compressor would be that the clutch became engaged and broke the drive belt.

Just don’t turn on your A/C and all should be well.

You can travel where ever you like, just don’t forget and turn on your A/C or you may break a drive belt.

  3. Michael S says:

Don’t turn the A/C or the “Defrost” on because both of them will try to run the compressor.

You can use the heat all you want, but not defrost or AC.

  4. Travis says:

It will never affect the engine or car. You just will never have air conditioning.see the compressor just pumps the refidgerent through the system and the fan blows the cool air off into and out your vents.

  5. Rick29148 says:

You’re okay.. But, for safety, there’s a single wire going into the back of the clutch of the compressor – Unhook it & tuck it safety away somewhere.

  6. Slammer says:

It’s safe as long as your compressors doesn’t size up.
