The AC Compressor On A Ford 2001 Taurus Cycles Off Every 34 Seconds. Why
Posted in Air Conditioning | Asked on Jan 16, 2012The air coming out of the vents is just barely cool. The AC worked fine last summer. Is it normal for the AC to loose the coolent over winter? Do you think the system has developed a leak? Would the compressor be going out?

Because FORDS are shitty. it could be a simple leak in the hose or you might need it charged. Autozone can hook it up to a diagnostic machine and give you a free printout of the problem. If they still do that
It is very normal for an A/C system to lose coolant over the winter months. It doesn’t only happen to Fords, I had a Toyota that it happened to. The reason that the compressor is cycling on and off is because newer compressor are built to automatically shut off if there is no coolant in the system. This is a safety mechanism on the part that keeps it from burning itself out by running without coolant. Most likely you have a leak in the system. I wouldn’t worry about the compressor. Just take it in and have them run a die test to see where the leak is and then have them seal it and re-charge your vehicle with freon. The A/C will run like new again.
Many reason:to be honest with you all cars that have AC the drivers must turn them on once a while even in the winter ,that lubricate and keep the whole AC system in a working status .any way, i, recommand filling the freon ,check the termostat, clean the condenser from dert ,check the hoses for leaking all this and must be done do not be surprised if the problem might be so small as a lose wire from the compressor ,or a faulty fuse.
It probably has a minor leak. The line connector seals are noted for leaking.
Its cycling because its low on refridgerant and needs recharging.
Have system leak tested and repaired.
Either the compressor is going baqd or is in desprate need of oil recharge & Service – or you may have an A/C relay going bad – I would call your local autozone and check on prices !!!! Or at least have a good mechanic take a look at it – Good Luck……………..Tazz
It may be low on freon.
