Below is the question about My AC Compressor On My 1998 Ford Taurus Is Making A Very Loud Noise…,

It sounds like metal on metal, very loud. I was told it was my A/C Compressor by a mechanic at a local auto shop… Wanted to know if this was a serious issue, and how much estimated would it cost to bypass?

  1. Rudy H says:

If you don’t want to use the air con anymore, you can get a belt that can still run the other accessories while skipping the pulley for the compressor. If you can’t do that because of the angles or inability to find the proper belt, you can remove the compressor and use these “placeholder” pulley designed for just this purpose. You can do it yourself if you’re the least bit handy. You’ll be venting any freon on the system out to the atmosphere which sucks, but the shop would probably do the same while charging you some bogus environmental fee.

Disconnect the wires to the compressor than it will only use the clutch or spend the money to replace cost to replace $500 to $700.

Sounds like the a/c compressor clutch is going, replace compressor.
