Somewhere in your belt loop system, there is a component that moves and serves as the belt tensioner. It may be the ac compressor or a separate belt tensioner. You don’t loosen the pully, you loosen the whole unit. After the belt is installed, you ppull that component tight and tighten the bolts.

Buy a Haynes repair manual for your Altima for less than $15

There are TWO nuts that you need to loosen. One nut keeps the pully from loosening itself, and the other actually loosens and tightens the pully; you never really need to take any nuts off.

You should replace both belts together. on the alternator, top right of vehicle a few inches behind the radiator cap is the alternator. if you look you will see a long bolt that points straight back towards the cabin. on the side of alternator is a bolt that runs thru the same bracket as long bolt loosen second mentioned bolt maybe two full turns–720 degrees. then loosen the long bolt watch the bolt don’t unthread from bracket. this long bolt moves the alternator to tighten belt.
a/c belt. under neath vehicle halfway between crankshaft pulley and a/c pulley you will see a third pulley without belt on car it should free spin and make no noise. if it does the “a/c tensioner pullley” should be replaced.lossen nut in the center of the pulley and now look for you guessed it a long bolt that runs thru the pulley that is used to move it and thus provide tension on belt. loosen slide pulley up and replace belt.
note alternator will be tight and hard to move. even with bolt loose. careful with that prybar don’t break anything like radiators and so forth. best bet is look at bottom of alternator two bolts one on each side loosen the alternator pivots on these bolts.
sounds more complicated than it is but i do this for a living.
