Wear and tear time to replace
When they refilled it did the check for leaks??? thats the main killer
secondly, yeah the compressor might need to be replaced, wireing and all should be okay.
if you look under the hood at the ac compressor when the air is off theres a piece in the vert center of it that spins when the ac is cut on….. thats what your looking for to tell you if its good bad or going…. if it doesnt spin at all its bad….. if it spins its good.
BEFORE YOU JUNK ANYTHING CHECK THE AIR GAP ON THE COMPRESSOR CLUTCH ASSEMBLY.
THIS VEHICLE IS 14 YEARS OLD AND THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY IS MOST LIKELY WORN BADLY, BUT IF THE AIR GAP IS TO FAR OUT IT WILL NOT ENGAGE WHILE IDLING BUT WILL AT FASTER SPEEDS.
THE AIR GAP SHOULD BE ABOUT 30 TO 35 THOUSANDS AND IT CAN BE ADJUSTED IN-WORD BY REMOVING JUST THE HUB AND ADDING OR REMOVING THE SHIMS THAT ARE LOCATED ON THE COMPRESSOR SHAFT ASSEMBLY.
IF AIR GAP IS OKAY THEN START UP THE VEHICLE AND TURN ON THE A/C, SET THE HANDBRAKE AND IF YOU CAN SEE THE HUB AND HAVE ENOUGH ROOM YOU CAN TAP THE HUB WITH THE END OF A WOODED HAMMER.
IF THE CLUTCH ENGAGES REPLACE THE COMPLETE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY BUT REMEMBER THAT YOU SAID THAT YOU HAD IT RECHARGED SO YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE THE LEAKS ADDRESSED AT THE SAME TIME.
It sounds like you belts are just loose. Check the belt tension and condition. If the A/C cools down the air from the outside, then it is doing its work. Give us an update about this one. BTW, the tension should be .5 in. when pressed from the middle with 20 lbs.
