Do You Think I Should Keep This Car

Posted in Air Conditioning | Asked on Feb 2, 2012
Below is the question about Do You Think I Should Keep This Car,

Nissan Altima 1996
Purchased for $2400 in June 2007
Good stuff: runs great
Problems:
Exhaust leaks and makes a noise
Color on the hood, top and trunk has faded.
Makes a scratchy noise with I turn OFF the AC, and stops when I turn ON the AC. (don’t know if the AC compressor is failing). But AC works great.
Sunroof leaks

Do you think its worth fixing it?
If its not worth keeping it, how much would you accept for this car? By the way, I need money and can’t just dump this car.

Well if u said it runs good and the major problem affecting it running would be the exhaust leak, then keep it. most likely a muffler shop can weld the leak so bye bye leak. the ac yea might cost u a bit to fix it but it seems like a good car, just get ur exhaust welded

    1. No it is not worth fixing
    2. Keep it.. If it works fine, ignore the aesthetic issues. All that matters is that it runs well.
    3. the AC noise shouldn’t be a problem, I have the same thing on my car and its nothing
    3. Make use of the car and get as much out of it as you can because you will not get much money for it

I wouldn’t fix a 1996 car because you fix this something else is gonna broke down….but if you think if you fix the sunroof the A/C the exhaust you’ll be happy then do it….if not sell it add the money that you were going to use to fix the car and add a lil more maybe then get another car maybe this car would be better and you’ll be happy….

KEEP IT AND AT LEAST FIX THE EXHAUST LEAK FOR NOW AND HAVE SOMEONE JUST LOOK AT THE SCRATCHY NOISE TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE.

From the sounds of it, there are no drivability issues. The exhaust leak may be as simple as a worn out gasket some where in the system or maybe a hole in a pipe. Get fixed before winter so you don’t get carbon monoxide in car. Faded paint won’t keep the thing from running. And some silicone around the sunroof will get rid of the raindrops that are falling on your head. As for the A/C, if it were the compressor, it would be the other way around: noisy when in use. If you can’t afford anything else, then I guess your keeping it for a while.
