Bypass AC On 1999 Dodge Dakota
Posted in Air Conditioning | Asked on Jan 26, 2012I have a 1999 Dakota V6. My a/c compressor clutch is in bad shape. Temporarily I want to bypass the a/c with a smaller serpentine belt until I can get the a/c clutch replaced. Does anyone know the belt size? I read it’s not the same belt used for the non a/c trucks.

Call your local napa of auto parts store and ask for a belt for your truck with out ac and thay will have the right size for you then just tell them to hold it for you if you are going to pick it up that day!
No it isn’t the same belt it is shorter etc and yes you should be able to take your old belt in and try to match it up with the size you estimate.
I might try going to a older parts store bec some have a huge selection of different belts and lengths or types etc and could probably tell you what you need right away or be able to figure it out.
You might be able to find all kinds of belts and a engine like yours that doesn’t have any A/C that has the exact belt you need right on it.Again if that model came without A/C and it must of the dealership would have a belt for it anyways or should have access to them.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way sometimes certain pulley designs might slightly vary when one exact same engine has A/C and one doesn’t.
Personally if your a do it yourself type of person I highly recommend a good U pick yard it can save me a lot of bucks especially on that age of vehicle, plus you can get a lot of cheap spare parts that are handy to have like extra spark-plug wires , fuel injectors , or ignition modules or sensors or fuses or relays or belts etc, plus some have days were you pay one flat fee and can carry lots stuff out.Or buy yourself a spare vehicle just like yours just for parts from one of the tow yards or privately etc.
Goodyear makes one, just get one for the same year without A/C and follow the routing diagram on the upper radaitor support, that decal is on you truck unless the front end has been repainted
