Auto Air Conditioning Issue

Posted in Air Conditioning | Asked on Feb 1, 2012
Below is the question about Auto Air Conditioning Issue,

AC works marginally, according to the mechanic the compressor is good, freon stays in, but right after a charge it will work for about 15 minutes then will work on and off or just mildly cool, if we try to charge it, it does not need freon, next thing the mechnic wants to try is the liquid line, this is a 2001 3/4 ton dodge diesel 2500. I am a female that is NOT mechanically inclined, so I cannot tell if he is sure of what he is trying — any suggestions?

Change the the filter/drier, It will necessitate removal of all the freon,,,,replacement of F/D,,vacuum pump evacuation,,,replacement of freon.

  2. Scoobyimpreza25 says:

You do not need a liquid line unless the line is damaged or has an internal restriction. And if it is damaged, have the mechanic show you the damage. if there is an internal restriction…then the line will have frost build up on it. I highly doubt the line is bad. Cooling fans possibly may not be turing on? or evaporator is icing up?

Check a/c compressor on off time, off time should about 5 sec. give or take. If it stays off to long, bad, if it stay on and never cuts off, bad. Is the a/c lines hot or cold? Is a/c sweating? when a/c is on. How cold does a/c get?
