Any Honda Experts 97 Civic Ac Compressor Comes On And Then Off. Low Gas

Below is the question about Any Honda Experts 97 Civic Ac Compressor Comes On And Then Off. Low Gas,

I have a 97 civic.

The cabin air only blows on speeds 3 and 4. I believe this is due to a resistor pack for the cabin fan which is fine.

However my ac also doesn’t work correct.

The compressor comes on and off when I have it on the AC setting AND the condenser fan never turns on which I know should come on if the AC is turned on.

I also checked the low pressure valve on the ac compressor where you usually fill the refrigerant gas and there was what seemed to be some antifreeze coolant inside the valve plug that was bubbling. I wiped it out clean and ran it for a while and it never came back. I know that the low side of the comp line is connected to the radiator but why would it come on in the valve? Help please.
forgot to mention. The high pressure side of the comp line was piping hot while the low pressure side line was not as cold as it should be.. please help

Replace the low and high pressure switches

You do have a bad blower motor resistor, if you can live with it working on only the 2 high settings, you wont hurt anything. You have low refridgerant, which will cause the ac compressor to cycle on and off rapidly, or not come on at all. You have a wiring issue as well, the radiator fan has three wires(one ground, one power for coolant temp, and one power for A/C) on the AC power circuit something is wrong, get a wiring diagram and check the circuit through tight spots, connectors and anywhere the wires can rub on anything. This is why your line was super hot, because the fan was not cooling it through the condensor, check all a/c related fuses and relays, and get the system checked for a leak…..

First of all the compressor should be cycling on and off because its not a constant run compressor. Your problem could possibly be that the refrigerant is indeed low, or the pressure switches are failing. If you checked the lines and the high side was hot and the low side was cool you most likely do not have a restriction in the system. I would take the car in and have put the system into a vacuum and check for leaks along with seeing where the level of refig. is at.
