Air Conditioning Compressor Keeps Turning Off And On
Posted in Air Conditioning | Asked on Jan 21, 2012I have a 1992 Honda Accord and just had a brand new compressor put in. It has a 1 year warranty. I live in Phoenix AZ and I had it for 3 months so far with the ac constantly on 95% of the time. Now when the ac is on i hear it turning on and off. It turns off and on alot when its on low. When its on high it takes longer for it to turn off and on. When it turns off it turns back on a few seconds later. Am i running low on free on? It still blows cold air at about 50 Degrees when its 107 degress outside.

It’s low on pressure, time to have it serviced..
I bet it is low on freon. You can add a can of Freon 143A and see if that helps.
The compressor turn on when the cabin sensor read that the temp is below the requirment, and the compressor turn off when the sensor read the temp is as required. A low freon will cause the a/c is less cold then it should be, this will cause the compressor will take more time to cooling the cabin which mean not fast to on and off. My opinion, you choose a critical temp of the a/c, it’s too cold for a moment by your need and too hot for the next second by hot weather. My suggest, raise the temp for about 2 degrees or 2 clicks. If it’s already on max, the raise the blower speed. Using a windows tint or something to reject the heat my help, specially at above the dashboard.
You may have a slow leak in the air conditioning system. You need to have it serviced, then a tech can use a vacuum motor to put the system into a state of vacuum. If it holds vacuum, then it is safe to recharge the system, but if the vacuum pressure drops, then a repair of the leak is needed before recharging.
good luck……
