97 Accord AC Stops Blowing After 2030 Minutes.
Posted in Air Conditioning | Asked on Jan 20, 2012I live in Florida (long, hot sun-time hours) and have a 1997 Honda Accord with a good AC unit (blows cold and hot air, when desired). However, it has been more than a year now since my AC stops blowing after 20-30 minutes of continuous use in the coldest setting. Furthermore, the AC does not shut off at any point (the compressor does not stop) until it stops blowing air altogether. At this point, I have no choice but to turn the dial to the off position because I get no air and the AC system makes a peculiar sound – as if belts were running at no avail. What is wrong with my AC and what can I do to fix it. I am a full-time student so I need to know what would be the most inexpensive solution to fix this issue. Thanks, in advance.

Too many variables. It could be the fan motor itself, or the blower resistor, or either of the pigtails.
I’m having the same problem, mechanic told me to try recharging your ac. you can get a recharging kit and auto store for far less then a mechanic would charge you.
If the compressor is constantly running that that might be your problem, the compressor should have a clutch that will enguage on and off as needed , with the compressor constantly running it causing your lines to freeze, when it stops blowing cold try turning off your ac and wait like 10 -15 mins and try it agian to see if it starts blowing cold agian. That could be the problem but its hard to tell you the problem without a visual.
Guessing but low coolant is a good start and best you have it check by someone who knows what they are doing.. too many things it could be guessing will cost you more
You say the ac stops blowing after 20-30 minutes of continuous use in the coldest setting. I read the other answers and it seems like the ac is still working, compressing and making cold air. It seems peculiar that your fan stops work and your compressor continues to run. Sounds like a fan problem.
