150000 Miles On A 1999 Ford Mustang

Posted in Engine & DriveTrain | Asked on Sep 16, 2011
Below is the question about 150000 Miles On A 1999 Ford Mustang,

What should I do if I want to get it to ATLEAST 200,000 miles?
Besides changing the oil regularly of course.
Any tips? Should I change any parts?
Is there anything I should be looking for or expecting to go out?
With regular maintenance how long do these cars usually last?

Car has a lot of miles but drives really nice and sounds really good.

Had a bit of a rough start when I’d first go out and start it in the morning so I changed the battery today.
I’ll have to see how it starts up tomorrow.
Car shakes a tiny bit when you hit 40 mph but goes away just past 45.
Sometimes when you put it in park or coming to a stop the car will also have a heavy shake to it.
(stronger and louder than the shake at 40 mph)
Not the brakes thoughs, sounds more under the hood.
Also, makes a sound a little similiar to a toy car when your at a low speed.
Is this normal for these cars?

Anything you can tell me would help, only had this car for 2 weeks.
Should I change the air filter?
Didn’t change – but checked the transmission fluid and oil, both are good.
Replaced battery.
Used some fuel injection cleaner.
Replaced dpfe sensor and cleaned the hosing.

Everything else we’ve done has been cosmetic.

You should have a mechanic do inspections of all systems to determine what needs to be repaired/replaced now, and in the near future ( this should have been done BEFORE purchase to insure that you didn’t get a junker ). Not having a mech look at the vehicle is a big gamble

Ehh not rilly sinsors will trip the check engine light those shuld be replaced onlything that dosnt rilly have a sensor on is suspencion do what i call the wiggle wobble test by jacking one tire off the ground n wiggling and wobbling it to see if it has any play if so those parts that are alowing the play shuld be replaced that will help with the shaking probly a bad tie rod orr imbalanced tires/ knot in the tire the heavy shake when breaking can be a warped rotor or drum causing it to do that the car im sure has abs if u hit the break to hard abs will kick in n start ticking will feel it in the brek pedel warped rotor is common for all cars/trucks they get warn hot to cold so menny times they warp ./ if a caliper is sticky the rotor will get to hot to touch and u put water on it it will sizzle depind on how u break to lol

Not you but man I can’t stand when people can’t spell correctly.

I would check the spark plugs for their present condition. Might need to be replaced. I would also do a fuel pressure test to make sure there is no fuel pressure leak. Also check the air filter and transmission fluid level.
