What Would You Do With This Car Sell It Or Finish It

I bought a 1976 Pontiac Astre (which is the Pontiac version of a Chevy Vega) at an estate auction yesterday and the previous owner did a V-8 conversion on it but stopped short of converting the suspension and brakes to handle the added power and weight. The car was garaged and a family member of the previous owner told the auctioneer that it has not be driven for about 15 years, but it is well preserved and nearly emaculate inside and out and although I have not attempted to start it yet I expect it will run and be driveable after I properly prep it for starting and flush and replace all the fluids. I loaded the cylinders with WD-40 this morning and I will let them soak for a couple days to make sure the rings are free and then I will remove the oil pressure sender and rig an adapter fitting so I can pressurize the oil channels and flush the bearings. It’s got a 4-bold main 400 engine in it (block casting number 3951511) and a Turbo 350 tranny and the installation does not appear to be a shoddy conversion done by shadetree mechanic. From the radiator to the motor mounts, the tranny cross member and mount, and all of the linkage, even the battery installation in the trunk, appears to have been done by a pro. And it has very nice headers on it and a scavenger pipes type exhaust. But it seems that whoever did this was anxious to drive it and so they just modified and shortened the driveshaft and bolted it up to the stock factory differential. There is no question in my mind that the first time someone puts their foot in that carb it will twist the drive axles and differential out of it and if they did manage to get this thing rolling they would have to stand on those stock brakes to slow it down. So this conversion is obviously not complete until the suspension, the brakes, and the rear differential has been beefed up and I’m well past my prime years and not too sure I want to tackle a job like that. What would you do? Would you just get it running and resell it as is as I am thinking I should do or would you rip out that stock suspension and finish the conversion so that it is safe to drive? I paid $1250 for it and today I have a bit of regret because I’m afraid that if I resell it as is with that stock suspension I doubt that I will get an offer much more than I paid. Chime in!

Thank you Jerry and Mister SS for your encouragement. I have decided to give it a go. I will tackle the front myself and I have already ordered the ball-joint adapter kit to install Chevy S-10 spindles, rotors and calipers on the front and I have enlisted a willing friend who has the experience and welding wherewithal to tackle the rear and he has agreed to fabricate the Pontiac Astre rear axle brackets to a Chevy S-10 housing and help me install it. He tells me that the housing brackets for the control arms, springs, shocks, and track bar will not be much of a challenge and although he says fabricating the torque arm bracket to the Chevy S-10 housing is going to be difficult he says he has been there and done that and that he is willing to give it a go again. I haven’t decided the on the master cylinder or springs yet but I think I might shop for a V-8 Monza spring set.
