Test Drive Help

Posted in Steering Component | Asked on Jul 30, 2010

So im 17 and im gettin my first car this sunday. the car is a red 1998 ford zx2 escort. it has 81k miles, recently passed Virginia inspection, and its $2800

ive asked alotta ppl(friends, teachers, friends parents) wut i should look 4 in a test drive. this is what i got so far:

-make sure the the car shifts smoothly into gears without shaking or anything.
-make sure the engine doesnt rattle, tick, or make whining noises.
-make sure the steering wheel never pulls to one side
-make sure the breaks dont squeal, stick, or vibrate
-make sure the car doesnt shake while in function
-make sure the components work(radio, A/C, power options, etc)
-make sure theres no leaks

does it sound like a good car? as long as the car passes all of these requirements, its most likely a good car that I should buy rite?

thanx

It really doesn’t matter because you have to be 18 to buy a vehicle to enter into a legal binding contract. $2800 is too high for any escort.

your friends gave excellent advice. if possible take a mechanic with you to the test drive. $2800 sounds like a good buy.

appraise it on edmunds.com before you buy just to make sure the price is right…

Your mom should be the one to drive. Most deales insurance will not cover anyone under 18. I’m sure she knows what to look for.
