My 1988 Ford F150 302 Auto 2wd Cranks Good, But The Starter Continues To Turn After It Cranks..HELP
Even if I turn the key back completely and completely remove the key from the ignition, it will continue cranking while the engine is running, and the only remedy at that point is to remove the batt cable to keep from blowing a fuse or messing up my starter. I have already replaced the solenoid with hopes of fixing AND also the starter switch (the electrical component attached on steering column).
Until I figure it out, for now, I have disconnected the starter cable from the solenoid, and to start the truck, I have to basically “hot-wire” it by turning the key switch to “on”, pop the hood and touch the starter cable to the solenoid until the truck starts, and leave the cable disconnected. This is becoming a pain and I want to get it fixed but I am out of ideas. Does anyone here have an idea that would help. (Buying another truck is not an option right now, unfortunately). Thanks.
Already replaced solenoid twice, and switch once, any other ideas ??

On the bottom of the steering column is a wiring harness, try adjusting that. If that doesn’t do it , replace the starter , have it tested first. Might be just a broken bendix spring .
That tells me that it is the switch at the bottom of the steering column. I replaced mine 1987 F150 a few month back for other screwy stuff.
If it was the starter or the solenoid, then it would still stick when you hot-wired it.
