How Do U Know Your Rack And Pinion Is Bad

Posted in Steering Component | Asked on Jul 22, 2010

I have a ’97 Honda Accord and i was told to replace my rack and Pinion. How do i know its actually going bad because as of right now, the car steers fine. Also, what is the Steering gear? I was also asked to replace this component and i stopped by Autozone to enquire about the cost but i was told that my car would not have one as it is automatic. Whom do i believe?

Your car has a rack and pinion no gear box , Is the car hard to steer?? first thing I would do is check the power steering pump check for leaks and it has plenty of fluid, hope this helps.

The steering gear is the rack-n-pinion. Most times the reason they fail is cause the seals start leaking. You need to get it verified by a reputable technician.
