Jeep Sagging Leaf Springs
Posted in Leaf Spring | Asked on Aug 2, 2010My rear leafs on the cherokee are sagging, I can see thru the leafs and their almost reversed arched.
I am going to Bonnaroo in 2 weeks, so shes going to be heavily loaded. Are there any quick and cheap fixes to stiffen things up a bit, w/out getting new leafs or add a leafs right away. I do plan on replacing them just not in the next 2 weeks.
Shes been loaded pretty heavily on a trip to Montreal this last winter and she did surprisingly well, only bottomed out once. But overall handling and control was good, I just dont want to push it and have a leaf break on me.

Cheap fix? Nope. Spacers will stiffen the ride, but on old springs they may actually break them.
there are places you can bring them and they reshape/bend back to original shape and add a lil stiffness/possible hight to your ride. ask your local mechanic
if you weren’t carrying a load, having them re-arched would work for a while. but with a load, they wont go very long at all. re-arching weakens them. just like any other piece of metal. not recommended! besides, costs more than an “add a leaf”.
if you get leaf clamps, they will lend some strength by helping the leafs act as one piece. the 3 bolt style are best. no “tab” type. and it wont help your reversed arch.
(example only, not necessarily for your jeep.)

or, in concert with the clamps, which *may* help your reverse arch. http://www.amazon.com/Make-Waves-Spring-Helpers-18920/dp/B0002JMMUK
that’s about as cheap as you can go and still be doing something…

that was for a 90 cherokee. and they come with eye bushings. i got mine there.
you cant beat $119 U.S. for a set of two.
then i got some air shocks to help with loads.
hope this helps
