How Do Lift Springs Work On A Wrangler YJ
Posted in Leaf Spring | Asked on Jul 31, 2010I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ and am interested in lifting it. I want to know how lift springs work. Do they just replace the stock leaf springs? And a description of how they work would be nice. Are they just made with more arc to raise the Jeep? Someone who has done this themselves would be nice or any personal experience. please no guesses or assumptions. Someone who knows for sure

There are One Answer
Lifting leaf springs have more arc to them. I would highly recommend BDS springs, they are military wrapped and they have one hell of a warranty. You might also want slightly longer shackles to allow for a little more axle articulation, but don’t go too crazy with shackles.
Keep in mind, if you lift it higher than a 2-3″ you are going to start running into other problems that need to be addressed, such as rear driveshaft problems. Look into getting a SYE kit for your transfer case. I can give you a detailed explanation if you’d like.
Before you ask what military wrap is, in this picture a military wrapped spring pack is on top, standard wrap is on the bottom:

If you snap your main leaf, your secondary leaf will keep the leaf pack attached to the shackle or spring hangar. That allows you to limp home.
