How Can I Fix My Slow Acceleration Problem 93 Ford Taurus…
Posted in Coil Spring | Asked on Aug 20, 2010I had a transmission leak and bought a car that was sitting one someone’s yard for over a year, both of these I thought contributed to why I basically had to floor my acceleration whenever I needed to move from a complete stop. But I had the trany leaky fixed and used fuel injector but yet I am still having troubles with my car. Here is a list of things I’ve had done recently and still to no avail has the acceleration problem been solved.
Transmission leak fixed and filled
Heating and cooling hose
Sway bars
Coil spring- front
This definitely helped with the front end suspension in terms of making the car driver smoother. But still got to press on the gas way to hard to move when Im at a stop, it kind of sounds like its working to hard as well, any ideas people on what I need to do? Thanks

I once had acceleration so slow that it was like being on a bicycle whenever I accelerated. I had some sort of an “engine problem”, which cost me $350 to have the mechanic fix it all up.
Put a new fuel filter on it and air filter and some new spark plugs and also have your brakes checked out to make sure they are not dragging some.
Check if all cylinders fire, specifically left rear and right front. These 3.8′s have 100% head gasket failure rate so that ford (!!!) was forced to extend warranty to 100,000 for a couple of years. Bad news: ’93 is not included.
Check the tranny fluid level, i had come in that would not go.the fluid level was low
Buy my 1996 Chevy Camaro Z28. That’ll help your acceleration!
Clean the throttle body with a special spray cleaner, you can get from any parts store. This will greatly improve your acceleration. Make sure you get throttle body spray NOT carb spray.
Your car is overdue for a new set of spark plug wires if it’s never had them. The spark plugs should be changed at the same time if you don’t know how many miles are on them. If you have a distributor cap and rotor, change those also. Ignition spark is one of the most important things that make your car get up and go when you step on the accelerator pedal. The lack of acceleration is commonly due to an engine misfire which in your case could be an ignition misfire. If the engine shakes and doesn’t run smoothly as you accelerate, especially under heavy load going up a hill, that means you need to know your ignition tune up is good before you can troubleshoot the problem further.
A ford Taurus is just to subject to do towards a daily basics however the best thing to do is to call a scrap yard and see how much is worth. But anyway to me it sounds like you need a new engine, by the way the best thing is to stop putting money into it and sell it.
There are a couple of things that come to mind. First, your catalytic converter might be partially stopped up and it will get worse if not replaced. Second, the transmission may not be returning to first gear when you stop. Try counting the number of times the tranny shifts when taking off from a start. It should shift 4 times. Also put the shifter in first and see if it accelerates any differently.
