Coil Spring On Back Right Tire
Posted in Coil Spring | Asked on Aug 13, 2010The coil spring on my back right tire doesn’t seem like its broken because i have not felt any tear or disconnecting point on it anywhere. The Tire is also slanting and is tearing up the tire, i ahve to put air in it everyday due to rifing on it crooked. Is it unsafe to drive on the highway or at high speeds with it like this? im afraid to driv eon the highway now with it. When im riding in the car that corner of the car shakes up and down? Whats the deal, Is it safe?

Sure doesn’t sound very safe, especially at highway speeds. The spring could be just totally worn out, without it having to break.
Ford product?
Get it fixed NOW!
***EDIT****
The Sable/Taurus is notorious for broken coil springs in front and rear. Replace them with Monroe Quick Struts which include a new strut, mount and spring pre-assembled in one unit. Broken rear springs especially can puncture tires. I have seen it happen several times.
***EDIT 2***
Not cheap. Quick Struts will typically retail around $250 each, should be done in pairs and the labor rate for the rears is IIRC 3.8 hours at whatever the local hourly labor rate is. I’d suggest the fronts too which are only a little cheaper.
