Should I Replace My Brake Lines Since I’m Putting On New Rotors And Pads

Posted in Brake Discs & Pads | Asked on Sep 1, 2010

I have a 2003 Ford Expedition, so it’s 6 years old with 115,000 miles. I have bought new brake rotors and pads, and am wondering if I should replace the brake lines while I’m at it even though they still work fine? I’m thinking I should since the 6 year old rubber lines are probably worn, even though they still function. I would replace with OEM rubber lines, I’ve heard too many bad story’s about stainless steel lines.

I wouldn’t bother replacing the brake lines. They are designed to last for many years. I have owned many cars for 10-15 years and have never had a brake line go bad.

Yes it is a good idea to replace them if they have any cracks or 6 years or older rubber starts to break down

You could replace them, but a better option would be to inspect them, check for any cracking or hardening of the rubber near the calipers. Any mechanic that tells you to replace them without inspecting is just looking to make more money. At only 6 years old it is unlikely they need to be replaced.

You dont have to replace them unless they go bad i drive a 21 year old car with brake lines that have never been replace also have been a mechanic for 20 years its recommended but not needed
