Problem With My Front End Of My Car…..

Posted in Brake Discs & Pads | Asked on Sep 3, 2010

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant. I recently got a pair of front tires and rims that are slightly smaller than my rear (19565R15 vs. 60R15).

Before i put the tires on there would be a problem when I would hit the brakes where my front wheels would shake. You could hear the rumbling sounds and feel it in the steering wheel. It really only happens if im going fast and not at all if i push hard on the brakes. I thought it was the rims but they’re new in the front. I just got new brake pads put in and that didn’t work. It was happening before I got the smaller tires, but now is worse.

Any help would be great. Im not a car person so i cant figure it out.

You need to cut your brake rotors. They are porbably warped from use. This is part of routine brake maintenance. No need to panic.

    Go to a Mitsubishi menchanic.

Take it to someone with a ramp, like a kwikfit.

Sounds like it could possibly be warped brake rotors in the front.
You will need to replace or turn the rotors.
You might also want to take the car into a reputable front end shop for an inspection. Any number of loose suspension components could cause that problem, and losing a tire due to a bad tie rod at freeway speeds will not be a pleasant experience.
    Good luck and drive safe!

Either the front rotors or wheel bearings need attention. Go to a good brake shop and get an estimate.

You have warped brake rotors. It’s worse now because the smaller front tyre diameter means that the wheel is spinning a little faster, making the vibration worse. Also, there’s less tyre sidewall flex to help soak up the vibration, so it becomes more noticable.

    Good luck!

Did you have your brake rotors turned when you replaced your brake pads? If not have them turned. I hope you had your tires and wheels balanced and your front end aligned if not try those things all of which you should of done any way when you replaced the tires and brakes. Good Luck
